Sina Entertainment News [11 January 2013]

During JYJ member Park Yuchun’s Media Day in Beijing, organised by South Korean agency C-Jes, Sina Entertainment had an exclusive interview with Park Yuchun.

Official visit to China; Beijing not as cold as imagined

Although it is not his first trip to China, it is the first time that the itinerary is without any concert, fan meeting or performance-related activities.  In this, Park Yuchun has shown the proper work attitude that Koreans usually have.  He said that because he had to film the drama “Missing You”, he was unable to take time out to personally thank the China media.  So this trip is made to specially thank them.

Talking about his impression of Beijing, he said he was mentally prepared for Beijing to be very cold but it was not as cold as Seoul.  Regarding Beijing cuisine, he revealed there is a small restaurant they patronise so frequently that the boss now can understand Korean and gives him special privileges, and he can order items that are not in the menu.  This time in Beijing, the food that he wants to eat most is still mutton on skewers (kebabs).

Selects a work based on feeling; real character is Jung Woo and Lee Gak combined

In 2012, with 2 hit dramas “Rooftop Prince” and “Missing You”, Park Yuchun seems to be enjoying greater popularity than before.  Besides fans from his singing days, there are new drama fans; outside the press conference today, it is also crowded with his fans, there just to take a look at their idol.

During the press conference, the hit dramas that he acted in became a topic that must be mentioned.  Regarding the great success of his works, he said that for the first work “Sungkyunkwan Scandal”, he did not know how to choose and just listened to the views of the people around him.  But for the recent “Rooftop Prince” and “Missing You”, he himself was moved by the script and decided to take it.  When asked which part of RP left the deepest memories, he said he will always remember the wedding at the rooftop; the atmosphere was too sad and even the crew had tears falling.  When it was said that “Missing You” has more kissing scenes than RP, he looked unconvinced and said, actually RP has more kissing scenes, but viewers are affected by the heavy atmosphere in MY and have the wrong impression.

When talking about his real character, he said it is a combination of Han Jung Woo and Lee Gak; he has Lee Gak’s sense of responsibility without losing freedom and Jung Woo’s traits of acting babyish and spoilt and also joking around.  He also took pride in his good interpersonal relations and said he maintains a good relationship with all the actors/actresses he has worked with, keeping in touch even until now.  About RP having the highest number of clicks on the internet, Park Yuchun said he also had a shock when he heard it.   Regarding the finale of Missing You that everyone is most concerned about,  he is tight-lipped and said the script is not out yet, but he is wishing for a tragic end and asked the scriptwriter to make him die.

Entering the China market possible anytime; wants to challenge a war movie

This media day activity is widely seen as the first step for Park Yuchun to enter the China market.  Regarding this, he was straightforward and said it can happen anytime if there is a suitable script.  He also revealed that he has received the invitation for several works but he has not made a decision yet.

JYJ member Kim Jaejoong has already entered the silver screen with ” Codename Jackal”; when asked if he would follow suit, Park Yuchun said he is in no hurry.  He said, “Wait til I am 30 or 40 years old when I can challenge more kinds of roles; for movies I can take my time.”  About the type of movie he would most like to challenge, he was given 3 choices, love, action or comedy.  He gave an unexpected answer– war movie.  He quipped, “Actually I really wanted to act in a horror movie, but I was too scared and gave up the idea.  Now I want most to act in a war movie, best with a scene of 5 hundred horses galloping at me.”

  1. Yuchun ah….. how can you ask Ms Scriptwriter to make you die????? You want all your chunsas to die of heartache, is it???
And a war movie with horses??? You must be missing Lee Gak and the Joseon era!

  2. @Melodysky, ya, that silly boy wants a few million chunsas to die, is it?

But in my heart of hearts, I agree with YC. A sad or nebulous ending will make any drama/movie more memorable as viewers will discuss it long after it is over.

Rooftop Prince is one classic eg. Till now, fans are debating and wondering the last person we saw with Pak Ha is Lee Gak or Tae Yong. Because many feel sad at LG being lonely in Joseon, many say it is LG. Even Han Ji MIn says so. But YC says it is Tae Yong. So even the couple themselve have different interpretation .That is a good way to end a story.

I pray their adding of one more episode to MY is to give a meaningful ending and not just padding due to MY’s or YC’s popularity.Because I want MY to be such a good drama that it will win YC more awards in 2013 Baeksang and Seoul International Drama awards. He deserves it for delivering such excellent acting.

  3. How can a sad ending be the logical and rational ending? It’s not. So don’t die. Life will be just too hard for Jung Woo and Su Yeon if any one of them dies. They deserve a happier life together after what they had been through.

  4. @pink sapphire, YEAH EXACTLY!!!!! I really can’t understand. Somehow their logic and our logic seems to be very different!

@6002mydream, you can’t compare this to RP. People talked about RP for a long time because it was ambiguous, not because it was sad. It was like a puzzle as to who it really was at the end, and everyone had their own interpretations. That’s what made it linger on. But now, if Jung Woo or Soo yeon dies, it’s just PLAIN SAD!!!!! There is nothing to discuss about except how we would like to kill the scriptwriter!!!!

And I feel that Yuchun is just saying this half in jest. You know how he loves to tease. That naughty boy….. tormenting all his fans!

    • @Melodysky and @pink sapphire,
I think what YC meant is because of HJW’s abandoning LSY and his wealthy heritage, the lives of many people are turned topsy-turvy. Harry mum’s want him dead so Harry can get the inheritance. And we all saw how LSY and her mum suffered. And Detective Kim died trying to save her. And poor Harry and his mum are such sad victims.

It will appease Harry and his mum only if HJW dies. That is their logic. But with his mum gone, we have to think of how to “heal” Harry’s pain. So how now?

Maybe both HJW and LSY will die so they can join each other in the after-life. .Personally, I find the story so sad for both the lovers, it no longer matters if both die together and live happily ever after as lovers in the next life.

  5. @6002mydream, if anyone should die, it is Jung Woo’s father! He is the root of all evil and the cause of everyone’s misery. His death should logically appease everyone. JW and SY are also victims and now that they are healing each other and their love is blossoming, I don’t find it sad anymore. They are finally happily in love and it can continue as long as they don’t die! It will be really sad if it’s cut short by a tragic ending. They don’t have to die together to live happily ever after. It’s not like Liang Shan Bo and Zhu Ying Tai, you know.

    • ROFl! Melodysky, how did you know that was exactly what I was thinking – Liang Shan Bo and Zhu Ying Tai ?

I just didn’t want to go into the morbid details of ZYT crying at LSB’s tomb and how the tomb opened up and swallowed ZYT and then 2 butterflies flying out of the tomb into freedom.

Because after seeing Bu Yong’ s butterfly flying from Lee Gak’s embroidered handkerchief into New York to distract Tae Yong in Rooftop Prince, I only associate the butterfly with good things.

Up till yesterday, YC is still bent on a sad ending in MY. What’s with that boy!!

OK, let’s see how the ending pans out. If we are not happy, we can lobby for Missing You Part 2.

What has upset me in MY is the fact that the director didn’t let YC sing any OST. How silly can they get? Imagine the excitement in MY Fan Meetings when YC sings his MY OST. A simple yet effective marketing ploy at no extra cost.

Miss Ripley was over in 2011 , yet YC is still singing it in practically every fan meeting. Because all his fans love it.

      • haha…. wow I didn’t know I could read minds!!!!

Yeah looks like he’s not singing any OST…… SO SAD!!!!!! That must be the saddest ending of all! Really, how stupid can the producer/director be???? S.I.G.H……….

  6. I am dreaming that’s he is singing Magic Castle lol…..No OST, no Solo….(╥_╥) ….his two hyung already got their own solo…I now can only hope their group album…at least he might at least sing a song of of own….

  7. @Vienna, JJ is born in Jan 1986, YC in June 1986 and Junsu in Dec 1986.So only JJ is YC’ s hyung.

And I hope with you that if YC can’t come out with his solo album before JYJ’s next album. I also want him to sing a Korean song he composed himself. I miss his soft vocals so badly. Frankly, I keep repeating “Chajatta” the last 2 years because I love hearing his gentle voice in that song, especially the way he started it. Heavenly.
